Of all the melon varieties, honeydew melons have the most mouth-watering taste. Belonging to the cultivars group of muskmelons, honeydew melons occur in numerous varieties like the Crenshaw, Casaba (from Kasaba, a town in Turkey), Persian, and Winter. Honeydew melons provide one of the best options for a quick bite, especially for those who believe in leading a healthy lifestyle. It was Marco Polo who first discovered the Persians drying honeydew melons to enhance their aroma and flavor. Cut honeydew melons with seeds make an excellent snack. Not just that, honeydew melons can be dried and kept like raisins and its seeds can be roasted. Honeydew melons can also be made into lip-smacking kebabs!

Honeydew melons provide a number of alternatives for your healthy diet. They are rich in Vitamin C, potassium, pantothenic acid, and Vitamin B6 that help to overcome high blood pressure, skin disorders and other related problems of the circulatory system. These melons are at their nutritive best when ripe. But there is one risk associated with ripe honeydew melons- they are highly perishable. After a long and tedious research, scientists have finally come up with a solution to keep honeydew melons at their 'sweetest best'. The solution is very simple indeed. All you need is to drown the melons in a water-bath containing a special calcium-amino acid solution right after harvest. The calcium in the solution penetrates the rind to make it firmer and increases its shelf life. Thus the aging process of melons is arrested to a great extent. However, growers have to be a little careful deciding the time of picking of honeydew melons. Once picked, honeydew melons do not develop further sweetness. Hence, a great attention must be directed towards the picking of these melons.

A little expertise is needed to identify and pick honeydew melons at their best. Merely picking up by its rind and color are not always the safest options to pick up the right melon. Choose a melon that has no soft spots. Shake it up from side to side. If you hear the shaking of the seeds, it is perfect to be taken along. Honeydews grow best in January and February. However, if it is early in the season, choose a melon that is ripe among the bunch. If the 'seed-shaking' is not quite distinct, keep the melon in a kitchen towel for a day or two. Melons that are picked up prior to the loosening of their seeds will not ripen at all. So growers must be all the careful when picking up their produce to be sent to the market.

These little tips are highly important to preserve the rocking taste of honeydew melons. Its sweet taste blends easily to lend an exotic flavor to any dish. Believed to have originated in France, honeydew melons made their inroads to the US nearly a century ago and have been highly popular since then. With added health benefits and numerous recipe options, honeydew melons are rapidly getting stacked into the grocery shelves!

The Diet Of Costa Ricans And How It Keeps Them Healthy

Located between Panama and Nicaragua in Central America, Costa Rica boasts a proud culinary heritage. Many scorn Costa Rica food selections for being high in saturated fats, but in actuality Costa Ricans are far more active than other cultures.

Costa Rican's, locally called Ticos, never eat excessively. Limiting their portions is one way they stay so healthy. Also, lunch is the most important meal of their day. In fact, like many Latin nations, businesses and schools close down for a couple of hours at lunch so that employees and students can go home and have a leisurely meal with their family. This allows both a strong focus on family life, but also on slowing down a meal. In America, a typical school lunch lasts a mere twenty minutes at most and work breaks are usually an hour tops, so many must eat at their desk or machine. A Costa Rican's lifestyle is completely different.

Costa Rica food often revolves around rice and beans, such as Gallo Pinto, a dish that translates to "Spotted Rooster". Gallo Pinto is a dish that includes black beans at a three to two ratio to rice. Also added are onions, garlic, and salt. Meats are eaten sparingly, while beans provide a high content of fiber. Fiber can help counteract the saturated fats. Costa Rica food choices rarely include dairy or cheese.

As Costa Rica has water on both sides with the Pacific to the west and the Caribbean to the east, fresh seafood is always available. Unfortunately, the seafood is also extremely expensive as the country exports the bulk of its seafood. Chicken, pork, and beef are the more popular meats. Costa Rica food supplies use organ meat as well; so expect to find dishes involving stomach, brains, and other organs on the menu. Other staples of Costa Rica food choices include fresh vegetables such as tomatoes and a variety of beans, fruits, including plantains, and rice.

Costa Rica's capital city, San Jose, is packed with outstanding restaurants and cafes. In San Jose, one can experience bold foods and beverages. Staple beverages such as sugarcane soaked in hot water are second only to the nation's delicious Costa Rican coffee. Drinks mixing corn meal and milk are also common. Plantains are similar to bananas in appearance, but they cannot be eaten raw. Plantains are pounded flat, battered, and fried tender.

As one travels to other regions, the choices for Costa Rica food also decrease and become more traditional with the beans and rice dishes. Beans and rice dishes are usually served alongside a carrot and cabbage or lettuce and tomato salad. Sometimes Arroz, (fried shrimp or chicken), are found on the table instead of beans and rice. The salads are typically larger than the portion of beans and rice and that helps the Ticos to stay fit.

It is possibly to choose healthy selections of Costa Rica food. Stick to plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables and enjoy the delightful blend of culinary flavors.

What Is Up With Goji Juice? - Is Goji Juice A Scam?

If you Google the term 'goji juice' on the Internet, you'll receive a bunch of hits for websites that sell this supposed miracle in a bottle. You'll also get a bunch of hits talking about goji juice scams. When thoroughly researched you will find that while goji juice is good for you due to the natural healthy properties of the berries it is made from, you're wallet is getting scammed every time you purchase a bottle of it from an authorized vendor.

Goji juice can be produced for as little as $5.00, yet direct selling companies sells the bottles for $50.00 or more. On top of that, many of the representatives tend to mislead their customers, whether on purpose or out of ignorance remains to be seen. There have been reports that representatives tell their customers that the product is cold packed so as not to lose the healing properties of the berries, that it is a cure for cancer, and other claims that have been scientifically proven and lack the backing of medical organizations. Some of the information that should be imparted to customers - like the effects of consuming too much of the mineral selenium - is not being distributed, thereby leaving people to research the ingredients on their own and determine if it really is a healthy aid in their life or just a juice drink.

Most health food stores and vitamin markets carry alternative sources of goji juice, such as one of its competitors. You can also purchase dried goji berries, and other products that contain it that are considerably cheaper and with the same or better benefits. So why should you purchase goji juice from a representative of a direct-selling company for an outrageous price while being misled?

Goji juice scams primarily come out of the fact that it is sold through direct marketing companies whose representatives are not always completely trained or informed about the product they are selling. And you have to take into consideration the fact that most representatives of these types of companies are looking to recruit you to sell the product. That in itself is probably the biggest scam surrounding goji juice.
