what is goji berriesSugar - The Truth!

Let's talk about the not-so-sweet truth about sugar and how it sabotages your health. First of all, did you know that the average American gets 20% of their calories from sugar? It is estimated that the average person eats a whopping 136 pounds of sugar a year! Unfortunately many young people eat an even greater amount. Sugar is an empty calorie food, meaning that you are taking in calories that have no nutritional value to fuel your body.

Have you ever noticed that once you have something sweet it leaves you wanting more and more? You've just hopped on the sugar treadmill. You get the sugar high and then crash, as your blood glucose levels swing wildly up and down. Sugar is the drug of choice for many people and it is not without consequences.

Refined sugar depletes your body of all the B vitamins; it also leaches calcium from your hair, bones, blood and teeth. If that is not enough, sugar also affects your body's digestion. Sugar ferments in your stomach. It stops the secretion of gastric juices and inhibits the stomachs ability to digest. Weight gain, mood swings and irritability are a few more side effects from consuming too much sugar. Sugar plays a major role in altering one's mood. Refined sugar has a chemical reaction on the brain, releasing serotonin, the 'feel good' hormone; this tricks the body into a temporary lift as well as causing a rise in blood glucose levels. This 'feel good' lift is then followed by the crash where you feel tired, irritable and even depressed. So what do you do about it?

Removing sugar, or at least reducing the amount, from your diet can and probably should be done in steps. First of all, make a decision to cut out all added sugar that you use from the sugar bowl. If this sounds impossible, please give it a chance. When you stop adding extra sugar to your foods you can actually taste the food your eating. Give your taste buds a week to adjust and I'll bet you will actually appreciate the flavors of your food more without the sugar. Another step to take is to read your labels. Food manufacturers add high fructose corn syrup to most packaged foods. You can start by cutting out all foods with this dangerous ingredient. This may seem daunting but let's face it; real food does not come in a box anyway. Packaged and processed foods are rarely a wise choice for optimal nutrition. When you get a sugar craving try to satisfy it with a natural sugar source like fresh fruit or dried fruit.

You want to avoid the processed sugars that have become so common place in our society. They are white sugar, brown sugar, blackstrap molasses and corn syrup. There are better choices out there like maple syrup, honey, cane juice, rice syrup and sorghum molasses. Many people use artificial sweeteners to avoid sugar. I'm sorry to say that this is no better. Many artificial sweeteners have been proven to have negative side effects. Studies have also shown that eating an artificially sweetened item will still leave you wanting something sweet just as if you had eaten real sugar.

There is no reason to use artificial sweeteners. The right way to deal with our natural desire for sugars is to get them from whole foods, from starches, vegetables and fruits. So I would like to challenge you to reduce your sugar intake. Give it just one week and you will see that you can do it and that you will feel better and more balanced.

Digestive Disorder Remedy

This three-step digestive disorder remedy strengthens your digestion and improves nutrient absorption. It's also an effective indigestion remedy and preventative. If you're looking for simple, effective, natural remedies for digestive system disorders, and a way to prevent these problems, start incorporating the below methods into your daily routine. You don't need to take any pills or buy anything - this digestive disorder remedy is based on time-tested, traditional Chinese tips and techniques for healthy digestion.

3 Step Digestive Disorder Remedy

Step 1: Before Meals

  • Do the Ab Lift: This exercise involves using your abdominal muscles to pull your abdomen in, hold it for several seconds, and then gently let it go. It's an excellent way to invigorate your abdominal organs, enhance blood circulation, stimulate your bowels and prepare your digestive organs for food. For full instructions, including color photos and tips, follow the link at the end of the article.

    3 Step Digestive Disorder Remedy

    Step 2: During Meals

  • Eat simple, light meals: If you suffer from indigestion, bloating after meals, and other digestive upsets, you may be eating too much heavy, spicy, oily foods. Instead try simpler, blander meals of steamed vegetables, noodles or rice, with small amounts only of a single kind of meat, finely sliced or chopped. Also try eating 4 or 5 small meals a day instead of 3 big ones.
  • Chew well, eat slowly: Digestion starts in your mouth, so chew food well and eat slowly if you want to prevent indigestion.
  • Don't overeat: Overeating is a major cause of digestive problems. Be kind to your digestive organs and stop eating at around 75% full.
  • Don't eat when upset: Eating while highly stressed or emotionally upset is very bad for your digestion. Instead skip the meal and eat when you're more relaxed.
  • No cold drinks: Cold drinks during meals are also very bad for your digestion. According to Traditional Chinese Dietary Therapy, the digestive process requires warmth to break down food. Dumping cold liquids on top of your food greatly impedes this process. To help digestion drink a cup of warm-hot green tea instead.
  • Dessert: Eating dessert, including fruit, with or just after meals interferes with the digestion of your main meal. Sweets like cakes and ice cream are best avoided altogether, or eaten on their own if you really must have them.
  • 3 Step Digestive Disorder Remedy

    Step 3: After Meals

  • Rub your abdomen: Rubbing your abdomen after meals is one of the simplest, most effective natural remedies for digestive system problems. It enhances digestion and absorption of nutrients and is a useful indigestion remedy when you eat too much or too quickly. Rub your hands together to warm them up, then place one on top of the other on the right side of your abdomen next to your belly button. Rub in circles around your belly button and entire abdominal area for 2-3 minutes.

  • Walk: Taking a slow, leisurely walk for 10-15 minutes (or more) after meals is another highly beneficial way to improve digestion. For greater benefits, rub your abdomen (see above tip) while walking.

Don't be fooled by the apparent simplicity of this 3-step digestive disorder remedy. Incorporate this time-tested dietary advice into your daily life and you will notice a positive change in your digestion, bowel movements, energy level and health in general.

Not just A blog about benefits of goji berry

benefits of goji berryThe Fastest Way to Have Better Digestion

You might disagree, but hear me out on this. I think one of the best ways to improve your digestion is to follow some very simple food combining rules.

One question I get a lot is, When you eat raw foods, do you have to avoid certain combinations? The answer is yes. But then, it doesn't have to be complicated.

I will show you some very simple ways you can use food combining to your advantage, and I will also list some food combinations that are perfectly fine, although many people still shun them.

    Sugar and Fat

The main combination to avoid is sugar and fat. Sugar being any type of sugar such as fruits, dates, refined sugar, or anything sweet. Fat includes oils, avocados, nuts, and any other type of fatty foods.

The reason is that fat takes a longer time to digest, while sugar tends to digest quickly. When the two are mixed together in sufficient quantities, the sugar will ferment. Say hello to gas and bloating!

So the combinations to avoid include: dates and nuts, nuts and dried fruits, adding fat to fruit smoothies (including oils, nuts, etc.), and obviously eating fruit or sweets at the end of a meal.

However, let me also say that although this is the most important rule to follow, it is not completely rigid either. A little occasional combo of fruit and fat are okay, but generally, you'll find that avoiding this combination most of the time will solve a lot of your digestive problems.

    Sugar and Starch

Another very bad combo is the combination of cooked starch and sugar, so this one obviously doesn't apply to a raw food meal. Starch includes bread, potatoes, pasta, etc.

This combinations leads to a lot of gas and fermentation. Examples include: raisin bread, all pastries, all cakes, all cookies, and eating sweets after a meal!

    Concentrated Foods

You can understand the philosophy and science of food combining by understanding one simple idea: it's best to eat only one type of concentrated food at a meal.

Concentrated foods include anything that's not a fresh fruit or vegetables, or anything that's high in fat. For example, bread, meat, potatoes, nuts, seeds, avocados.

The reason is that concentrated foods take more time to digest, and when they are mixed together, they tend to conflict with each other and cause digestive problems.

So the idea is in one meal to have just one type of concentrated food, and accompany that with lots of vegetables. It's also best to eat fruits alone.

    Unnecessary Rules

There are several rules of food combining that are really not necessary. Once you become more fluent in the language of food combining, you'll understand why. Let me give you a few:

Melons - There's no reason not to mix melons with other fruits. You can mix melons with any other fruit you want, without any problems. Just don't mix them with concentrated foods.

Fruits - Fruits may be combined with each other without problems. There's no need to divide them in categories of their own. The only exception is the banana, which should not be mixed with very acid fruits such as oranges. The reason is that bananas contain starch and this conflicts with the acidity in certain fruits.

Tomatoes - Although we eat tomatoes as a vegetable, it is a fruit in reality so it may be combined with other fruits if desired.

Greens Don't Count - Greens such as lettuce, celery, spinach, and other green leaves, don't even count in food combining. The reason is that they combine well with anything. They combine well with fruit as well as with any other food.

    Simplify Combos

So those were a few tips to help you improve your diet and get you started with some food combining concepts.

The whole idea about food combining is to simplify meals. It means that a meal with 5 ingredients will digest more easily than a meal with 10. And a meal with 2 ingredients will be easier to digest than a meal with 5.

It's more important to vary our diet from meal to meal, rather than get all that variety in one meal!

As you learn more about food combining and a simple and easy raw food diet, you'll find that it's really the best way to stay healthy with a silent digestion, and best of all, it's also so enjoyable to eat that way!

Cupcake Success Is All About The Ingredience

Cupcakes are made many different ways. Among us we find that many people have an ancestor, great grandmother, friend or other such person who knows someone who knows someone who knows how to create the best cupcake you will ever have in your life. How are these cupcakes deemed more superior than the lesser less exalted cupcakes in our midst? The differential factors lie in choosing extra special ingredients.

A cupcakes final outcome is truly dependent on the care and quality of the ingredients that are put into it. Some may think a cupcake is a cupcake. But they will not argue that there is a huge difference between homemade hamburgers versus McDonald 99 cent burgers. There is just an essential difference, bottom line.

Some boutique bakeries will go the extra mile and spend about eighty dollars on a bottle of vanilla essence whereas the average corner store mom n pop bakery shop will spend ninety-five cents and wonder why their cupcakes dont have that extra special quality taste. The fine ingredients are created differently, grown with extra care, refined in a special manner. It is the difference between drinking a one hundred dollar bottle of champagne versus the five dollar liquor store special. Again, these perfecting touches just create a different palpable effect. These champagnes can be priced higher because alcohol connoisseurs can taste the difference. Such is the case for a finely crafted cupcake. I say crafted because with the extra special care that goes into these dessert treats, they become an art piece. They become someones hard invested masterpiece.

The special ingredients do not stop with such finds as bottles of perfected vanilla essence. Every ingredient is a perfected, addition, something that has been created and cultivated with the greatest care. For example, there are different quality levels of chocolate, frosting, sugars, eggs, and other such ingredients that make up the ultimate cupcake mixture. Even the actual cooking, stirring and process of making these special cupcakes can be learned in a manner that will bring out the greatest qualities in the treat.

These ingredients might in the overall end result make the price tag of a cupcake well over the typical cupcake price, but that is why they are special. Most people on average do not buy a celebratory bottle of champagne everyday, much less every week. But, when the occasion affords it, many people will treat themselves because they know they are paying for quality. Such can be the same for these extraordinary cupcakes. Maybe ones son or daughter loves cupcakes and they just graduated from college with honors, why not opt for a cupcake delicacy instead of a cake to surprise and congratulate them?

For the affluent population, this can be the perfect dessert treat they have been looking for. Their wine cellars are already stocked with the best bottles of champagne and wine. Their garages filled with the latest vehicles of their dreams, why not top off their success with an extraordinary dessert treat!
